Resources and Technique
Thanks for letting me share your tie-dyeing journey!
You can refer to the resources in your class handout for tips, techniques, and example products that I’ve found helpful, but I also encourage you to explore and experiment for yourself.
One of the beauties of tie-dye is that you don’t have to have a workshop full of highly specialized, expensive equipment to be successful. As you practice your craft, you’ll find methods that work well for your style and equipment that fits your space. This is also a great opportunity to recycle, upcycle, and repurpose household item (produce clamshells, plastic mesh, bottle caps, retired kitchenware, etc) and thrift store finds.
Remember!
Let go and breathe. Tie-dye in general, and ice-dye in particular, are imprecise mediums. Every creation is a conversation between the artist and the universe.
Practice makes progress. ‘Nuff said.
If at first you don’t succeed…dye, dye again. Some of our most interesting results come from “mistakes.”
Don’t cry till it’s dry. You can’t really see the true character of your piece until it’s washed and dried. Be patient!
